Baidu Launched SEO Audit Tool

Baidu just added a new SEO audit tool in Baidu Stats(similar as Google analytics), which checks and grades website on factors below:

  • The length of URL. Baidu’s official recommendation is, the length of URL should be no longer than 255 bytes.
  • The use of dynamic parameters. This is to avoid duplicate content.
  • Meta data. The absence and generic use of TITLE and Meta Description could affect the rankings and display in the search results.
  • Frame information. Baidu recommends websites not use frame/frameset/iframe.
  • Flash. Flash with text descriptions will help Baidu better understand the content of the flash.
  • Images. The use of “alt” will help Baidu better index the images on the website.

During Q4 of 2010 it is estimated that there were 4.02 billion search queries in China of which Baidu had a market share of 56.6%. MKT can help you with Chinese SEO strategy.

Search Engine Trends In China

Sina Drops Google Search

Sina, one of the biggest web portal in China has switched from Google’s search technology to its own search engine due to the end of its contract with Google, according to the Chinese company’s marketing department vice general manager, Liu Qi.

New Search Engine In China

The Chinese government has launched a new search engine called Panguso which is a joint venture of the state-owned mobile operator China Mobile and Xinhua news agency. China Mobile is the leading carrier in the country with 70 percent market share, we might see a mobile friendly search service or mobile Internet search engine.

Panguso is not the 1st state-owned SE in China. In December 2010, the official newspaper for the Communist Party in China, launched Goso to break Baidu‘s monopoly.

雅虎! currently utilizes this method on their 404s. They respond with a 404, but the 404 content also shows:

We feel this technique is fine because it reduces confusion by giving users 10 seconds to make a new selection, only offering the homepage after 10 seconds without the user’s input.

Should I 301-redirect misspelled 404s to the correct URL?
Redirecting/301-ing 404s is a good idea when it’s helpful to users (i.e. not confusing like soft 404s). For instance, if you notice that the Crawl Errors of Webmaster Tools shows a 404 for a misspelled version of your URL, feel free to 301 the misspelled version of the URL to the correct version.

For example:
http://www.google.com/webmsters <– typo for “webmasters”

we may first correct the typo if it exists on our own site, then 301 the URL to the correct version (as the broken link may occur elsewhere on the web):
http://www.google.com/webmasters

要达到良好的网站优化效果,除了要保证高质量原创内容及建立链接提高Link Popularity外,对网页进行充分的优化更是必需的。

Title 标签

在HTML语句中包含在 之间的内容,用来概括页面的基本内容。在用户浏览网页时Title显示在浏览器窗口的上方,而在SERP页面中,Title更是决定用户是否点击该页面的主要因素。

内容中的关键词

网页文本中包含的用户搜索时输入的关键词,这方面的优化包括文本中关键词出现的频次、位置以及组合方式等。

页面中使用的Headings、粗体、斜体等

Headings,通常意义上指段落标题,在HTML中以H1、H2、H3之类表示。

通过使用Headings、粗体等字体方面的变化给出概括页面或段落的概要或强调部分,这在可以在给访问者以较好的阅读体验外,还能够有效地帮助搜索引擎判断页面的重点内容。交替使用则效果更佳。
站内其他页面指来的连接

一般意义上,如果某个网页的内容很重要,那么,同一网站内肯定会有相当多的页面指向该网页,呵呵,很好理解吧?事实上,搜索引擎也是这么想的,一个内部连接充分的网页同样会被引擎认为重要。这方面的优化包括连接来源页面自身的内容、位置、链接使用的Anchor text等。

页面的外出链接

这方面的影响可能是正面的也可能是负面的,取决于链接的质量、与本页内容的相关度甚至网站之间的相关度等。

网页存在时间

每个网页对搜索引擎来说都有一个“出生时间”,即其被搜索引擎的Spider第一次爬行收录的时间。存在时间越长的网页,搜索引擎便认为其更权威,可信度更高。当然,这是在保证该网页不是“死”页面,没有被埋藏起来的前提下。

在URL中使用关键字

在URL中使用的关键词,对其的更详细讨论可参见初步优化: 子域名、URL、Keyword与description、Keyword in URL : 中文网站的两难等。

网页大小

网页大小可以用文件大小KB来表示,也可以用字数来表示。一般说来,一个过大的网页(KB)会影响浏览速度,一个过长(字数)的网页则难以在关键词密度方面找到平衡,但具体很难有定论。

Alt与Title标签

这包括图片的alt、Tltle标签,也包括链接中使用的Title标签。虽然这常被SEO Spam用做关键词填充,不过,各大主要搜索引擎仍然使用其做参照。

HTML代码

W3C认证被许多网站用以证明其页面文件符合HTML规范,简单说来,一个HTML代码错误百出的页面对搜索引擎Spider的总计也会带来困难。但是否经过W3C认证就会有助于搜索引擎排名目前仍存在不少争议,甚至有的测试表明一个故意留上几个小错误(注意,是小错误)的网页甚至能更受到搜索引擎的青睐。因此,我们要做的倒不一定非得通过W3C认证,但至少要保证其在各种浏览器下显示正常,保证搜索引擎的Spider能够正常分析。

做好SEO的关键

近期高谈SEO的前景问题的人很多,有的人说前景不明朗。我看了只能暗自默想,也不敢发表什么反对意见。因为上帝给了人自由。我能限制或阻止人的行为吗?上帝说,“你们不要论断人,免得你们被论断”。

我接触SEO的时间并不长,原本我是做Java开发的。因为到了新的公司以后开发方面的业务比较少,而且与Java无关,我的热情也不浓。公司的老板是德国人,他非常看好SEO,深知对一个公司来说SEO的重大意义。我也有同感,因为互联网时代才刚刚吐出新芽。特别是搜索引擎给互联网带来的重大意义,使各大中小企业深刻认识到,作为一个企业在互联网上的优势和形象,对于一个企业的发展来说有着多么重要的作用。正逢其时,SEO悄然诞生。其名字不重要,重要在 它将是如何改变互联网的市场! 如果不能认识它是如何工作的,永远看不到它正是促使互联网发展的催化剂。

我在谈SEO的标准文章里曾对SEO所做的工作作了简单说明。SEO的工作是实行网站从内到外的全方位优化,即优化一切关乎网站发展的因素。一方面是对网站本身的优化、网络的优化、安全性的优化,即技术性优化。从理论上说,当一个网站在技术的方面做到了全面的优化之后,基本上说这个网站本身已经不存在多大问题了。即使停止了优化,但这个网站本身已得到了巩固和完善。对于一个网站所有者来说,是不存在什么危险性的。但有句话说得好,不进则退。我提倡已做好技术性优化的网站,还要继续作不间断的观察、并引进更新的技术,对网站作定期的维护和检察。第二方面,从市场的角度看,要对网站的定位、对外提供的服务,以及加强网站的对外联系等等作全面的改善,从而提高网站的知名度,得到更多用户的认可和长久的信赖。许多网站一开始是有明确定位的,但因激烈的市场竞争,导致市场的变化,可能会不知不觉当中,使网站定位泛化,最后渐渐丧失市场竞争力。为了确保网站提供的服务能满足用户的需求,网站必须要作一些不同程度的调整变化。最终实现网站朝着稳定向上的方向发展,体现网站的真正价值。这是我对SEO的一个基本认识。但从目前众多服务商提供的SEO服务来说,他们仅 仅只是提供技术性优化,以提高网站在搜索引擎上的关键字排名为目标,但不能够最终使网站所有者从优化中得到实际性回报。这也是我在前面提醒,作为SEO的 客户,小心陷入排名的误区的原因。

从以上谈到的关于SEO的工作任务看,SEO实际上在网站运营过程中,是如影随行,无处不在的。没有哪个网站不需要做优化。因为没有优化将必然意味 着倒退。我认为目前的SEO,还处在一个初级阶段,它的发展还需要经历一个漫长的成长期。其间商机无限,一片光明。因为互联网上的“战争”,正在悄然打 响…
