What is the optimizal page size?

What is the optimizal page size? we have been asked this question so many times that I have lost count. In this article, you will learn what all contributes to the file size of a web page and thus, how long it takes to load on the visitors browser.
Structuring web sites – layout or a web site
Another question that I have been asked very often concerns the use of links on a web site – should one use relative or absolute URLs?.
Web site can start off as simple set of static HTML pages and if you are serious about your web presence, your site will in a matter of a few months will grow to tens, even hundreds, of web pages. Managing all those pages is not easy especially if you were not careful from the very beginning. Structuring web sites – web site design and layout looks at how you should segregate files on a web site which will stand you in good stead when your web site grows.
Color combinations
Your web site should reflect your company image correctly. The choice of colors is an important aspect in portraying this image. For example, red is usually avoided on financial web sites. Blues and grays have always been good choices for professional web sites. Here you will find more than 100 color combinations that you can use on your web site. You should typically test a color combination and maybe fine tune it for your web site because the color combination needs to complement the colors used in your logo.
HTML color names and the web safe palette
Colors on a web page can be displayed in hexadecimal codes or HTML colour names. Using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), you can even display colors in the RGB notation. You will also find the complete list of HTML color names along with their web safe equivalents.
The Web safe color palette was developed to provide consistency in color display across browsers. Though the idea is now outdated, it is still a good thing to know!
Web page fonts
If you have this irrestible urge to use that beautiful looking scripty font on your web site – Don’t!. Read more on browser compatible fonts – which fonts to use on web pages. I get so many emails from web designers who were “appalled” at how their web site looked on another computer. Don’t make the simple mistake of assuming that your visitors will have that lovely font installed on their system or worse still, that your visitors will download and install it just because you have requested them to! – Will you do it… I dont think so, and so don’t expect it from your visitors.
Obviously, there is a way to still use that beautiful font for text on your web site. You can simply make an image which will guarantee correct display across different browsers… however, the image would take much longer to load and the text will not be indexed by search engines. You can use the ALT attribute but it’s not the same thing as good old text!
Note: Google has decreased the relevance of the ALT attribute for ranking web pages because of so many web developers trying to spam the search engine by stuffing the ALT attribute with keywords.

What are Good Links, Anymore?

Defining Paid Links

We can assume anything that says “Sponsored By” on a Web site is most likely a paid link. Or, if there’s an area of a site that says “We Recommend” or “Supporters,” that’s probably a pretty good indication of a paid link.

But what about the not-so-obvious ones?

What about a Yahoo Directory listing? Does anyone seriously get much traffic from a Yahoo directory listing? Yet, every SEO I know recommends their clients get a Yahoo Directory listing (because “it’s a good link to have”). And, more than likely, your SEO will recommend Business.com listings ($299 each), Best of the Web listings ($249.95), or any number of other paid directory listings.

Paid links? I’m certainly not buying them for the traffic. You?

Press Release Optimization

No doubt, there’s value to submitting press releases. You can conjure up some decent traffic from submitting these things.

But, if you’re an SEO, you’re undoubtedly adding some keyword-rich text links to your press release. Are these paid links?

StatCounter

Now, what about a company that provides a free service in order to gain links? StatCounter’s Web site has a Google PageRank of 9. How many Web sites do you know of that have that high a Google PageRank value? Not many. Then, because of this very high PageRank (at least in part), StatCounter is able to sell links from their Web site to others.

Here’s an example of these (hidden) links:

<!– Start of StatCounter Code –>
<script type=”text/javascript” language=”javascript”>
var sc_project=1637611;
var sc_invisible=;
var sc_partition=15;
var sc_security=”f43d8a89″;
</script>
<script type=”text/javascript” language=”javascript” src=”http://www.statcounter.com/counter/counter.js”></script><noscript>
<a href=”http://www.statcounter.com/” target=”_blank”><img src=”http://c16.statcounter.com/counter.php?sc_project=1637611&java=0&security=f43d8a89&invisible=0″ alt=”free web tracker” border=”0″></a></noscript>
<!– End of StatCounter Code –>

Guess where StatCounter ranks for “free Web tracker” searches on Google?

They’re number one, naturally.

Paid links? I don’t know. They’re providing a free service. Perhaps they earned the links. Then again, they’re reselling the value of these links to their advertisers.

So, on the flip side of things, they’re brokering PageRank by — in effect — selling links. I know of several interactive marketing firms using hit counters and WordPress template “sponsorship” to gain links.

Social Media Marketing

You pay someone to solicit the social media networks. Perhaps you even provide power bloggers with samples of your product, so they’ll write about you.

Paid links?

Sure, you earned the link. You provided something of value. You made the effort to market your business so that people/bloggers will link to you. Still, it’s paid.

Website design for a growing Chinese Audience

Chinese users move online

According to the 19th Statistical Survey Report on Internet Development in China published by CNNIC, by the end of 2006, internet users in China had reached 137 million, approximately 10.4% of China’s population.

China’s Internet users increased by 26 million in one year, comparing with December, 2005, showing a growth rate of 23.4%. In addition to this, the number of registered .CN domain names in China increased to 1,803,393 – an increase of 64.4% in just one year.

There is no way back from this incredible period of growth and now it is up to marketers to penetrate the market and to create strategies to market to the growing number of Chinese companies and consumers online.

As is evident from the emergence of the English language based Internet, it is significantly better to be avant-garde and capture this market as it grows rather struggle to enter an already saturated market years from now.

Clearly it is important to understand the specific needs and requirements of the distinctly different Chinese audience before entering such a highly competitive market.

Website design and functionality

Popular Chinese websites such as ( http://www.mkt-china.com) are very image-rich and high on content illustrating the Chinese audience’s prefer to sort through large amounts of visual information quickly rather than navigating through many subpages of navigation.

Similarly to many Asian countries, the Chinese audience loves highly interactive websites and web 2.0 functionality allowing them to be more involved in the website. Examples of such features and functionality include blogs, forums and the ability to rate products and send information to their friends.

The Chinese audience is a very brand driven audience and viral marketing has proved to be particularly useful in this regard and thus focused viral marketing campaigns can be particularly beneficial to a Chinese audience.

Finally, websites should be designed to be culturally and aesthetically correct and will involve the translation of website content into Chinese in most circumstances.

Search engine optimization (SEO)

Just like with English language search engines, users can increase their chances of being among the top hits on Chinese language search engines by altering and optimizing their web content.

There are particular strategies that need to be considered when completing search engine optimisation for a Chinese audience based on the fact that most Chinese users search in different ways to simply using Google.

Multi-lingual Content

Web technology is flexible enough to deliver content in many writing systems, but users and content providers (especially those in the US) may not know what tools they need to take advantage of this flexibility.

Reaching the Chinese Audience

MKT is particularly interested in aiding its clients in reaching the rapidly expanding Chinese audience and has a team that is both culturally and knowledgably geared to design and optimise a website for a Chinese audience.

How to Find Time for Yourself?

enjoy-life

Do you ever find yourself longing for some time for yourself? Many of us are so busy with work, school, and Home life that often there is no time left over to do something that you enjoy. What follows are some ways to carve out that essential time you need to slow down, enjoy life, and rejuvenate yourself.

Scheduling Time with Yourself

1. Evenings with Yourself. Try to save certain weeknights just for you. If others ask you to do things those nights, just tell them you have plans. Use the time for gardening, reading, exercise, thinking, or the ultimate luxury of doing nothing!

2. Monthly Treat. Schedule a treat for yourself once a month. It could be on your lunch break, a weekend, or it could be leaving work early. Maybe you get a spa treatment, go see a movie, a haircut, play golf, or whatever treat you’re always thinking about but rarely get to. Schedule it in and it will happen!

3. Buy Tickets in Advance. sports, theater, concerts, or any other event you would enjoy. Schedule the plans with a friend later. Having the tickets already in hand will force you to make it happen!

4. Leave Work on Time. Huh? Yes, many of us stay at work late on a regular basis. If this is you, make it a point to leave work exactly on time at least once a week, if not more. And then enjoy that time! Leave work at work.

5. Join a Group. Here are some ideas of groups that can allow you some time away from work and Home: singing group, gardening group, astronomy society, book club, quilting (or any other craft) circle, biking/walking/running/etc clubs, ski club, etc. What are you interested in? Strike while the iron is hot. Look up a club in your area today and join! If you can’t find a club, consider starting one yourself!

6. Take an Adult Education Class. Take a fun class. If accounting is fun for you, then go ahead. If not, then think about some of these ideas: foreign language, photography, art, creative writing, or sports (kayaking, archery, golf, yoga). Belly-dancing anyone?

7. Exercise. For busy people it can be difficult to make time for this. But, you know what? You can do it!! All you have to do is decide today and then make it a reality tomorrow. A new habit is started with just one step. Take that first step tomorrow. Walk for 20 minutes in the morning. And then build on that success daily. Vary how you spend that time. On some days use the time for thinking and daydreaming. Other days listen to motivational audio and on days you want a real boost, listen to your favorite music! Here are a couple travel audio books you could borrow from your local library that will take you on a journey to a foreign land while you are walking or jogging: “Holy Cow:An Indian Adventure” by Sarah MacDonald or “The Places in Between” by Rory Stewart. If you’ve been exercising for a while and you usually listen to music, try go without any input for a change. Instead, let your mind wander and expand.

Synergy

1. 2 Birds, One Stone. Look for ideas where you can fit in time for you within things you need to do already or that will have multiple benefits. See the ideas below to give you an idea.

2. Walk to Work. This is a a great one because you’re accomplishing many things at once. You’re getting exercise, you have time to think or enjoy music/audio, and you’re helping to save the environment.

3. Arrive Early. Any appointment that you have, plan to arrive 15-30 minutes early. Then use this time for you: reading, writing, meditation, relaxation, thinking, whatever.

4. Volunteering. There are so many benefits with this. You make a difference for others, you escape work and personal worries, and you grow as a person. If you could help one organization or group, which would it be? OK, now go ahead and Google them and find out how you can help – even if it’s just once a year.

5. Side Job. Find a side job at which you can make money, but that will also allow you to do something you love. Some ideas: coaching, teaching a class (art, writing, sport, hobby, anything else you know well), or training others (what special skills do you have that you could share with others? singing, windsurfing, math?)

6. Lunch Alone. Try sneaking away for a quiet lunch alone on a park bench or even in your car. Enjoy some quiet time with no one to talk to and no audio inputs.

“Life is short, Enjoy today” try to know the crazy team MKT, you will found that Business is going to be better and better, life is going to be more and more bright!
